Wild herbs for the kitchen and the medicine chest      

(part 2)

In this article, we will give you more safe plants and herbs for your tea, you can bring home from your forest (or park) tour. You will get some simple recipes and directions.

Daisy, birch leaves, elder flowers and berries, wild rose. (Remember to rinse the flowers and herbs before use!)

This plants and herbs, and those who are closely written in article 1, is a good and safety start at your new kitchen and medicine chest  collection. (There will be written more articles about this subject).

    Daisy:

is a small beautiful plant, who grows at our lawn and at the meadow. This flowers are good in a herb tea mixture, and are good for external use as a bandage on sore, who has difficulties to heal.

    Birch leaves:

are particularly tasty in tea, it is diuretic and anti bacterial, and it reduce the body's cholesterol. 

    Elder:

The flower are good and tasty, with a lot of applications. It is filled with vitamin C, and are a real  good preventive before you catch a cold. 

Recipes:    1:     An easy way to make your own elder flower nectar:

Fill a pot with elder flowers (you can use the whole cluster), and pour boiling water over the flowers. Put a lid on, and let it draw over the night. Sieve out the flowers from the nectar, add the juice from two lemons, add sugar and give it a short reboiling. When the nectar has cooled down, it is ready to drink with one part of nectar and three to four parts of water. (This nectar are good for a hot rum toddy, too.)

2:    Dried elder flowers for tea:    Hang the flowers up under the ceiling with the flower heads down. When they are dried, put them in a jam jar, and the flowers are now ready for use. (About one spoonful of flowers for a cup of tea.) If you have a cold, put a drop of rum into your tea.

Elder berries:     are good for fruit syrup and water, and for a soup. The berries are filled with vitamin C, and are a good supplement for the cold winter evenings.

    Wild roses:

grows almost everywhere. It is beautiful, and smells fantastic. A symbol of love! Put a rose in your upper buttonhole, and your soul will be brightened from its smell (aromatic therapy). The rose and its fruit are filled with vitamin C. The rose are used in herb tea and rose water. The fruit are used for soup, jam (marmalade) and for tea.

Mixtures for good herb tea:

1)    A mixture of:    birch leaves, roses, daisies, raspberry leaves and a drop of lemon.

2)  A mixture of:      stinging nettle, yarrow, birch leaves, honey and a drop of lemon.
